It’s that time of year again. The Biennale has taken over the aesthetically minded of Sydney with their monopoly-like hold on the city’s modern art spaces. And boy is it awesome.
Now in its 17th incarnation, the Biennale of Sydney is bigger and better than ever. They have set up base mid-harbour on Cockatoo Island, commandeered the MCA and the AGNSW and infiltrated Artspace in Woolloomooloo.
SuperDeluxe, an experimental Tokyo performance space, is the collective in charge of the Artspace line-up. They’ve curated an exciting program of cutting-edge musicians, video artists and performance artists as well as setting up a weekly home for Pecha Kucha, our city’s most amusing idea factory.
Pecha Kucha, a concept born in Tokyo in 2003, is an informal cornice of ideas. The set-up is thus: presenters show 20 slides for 20 seconds each on any subject that takes their fancy. Worm farms, denim, music, typography… whatever.
Pecha Kucha is a Japanese word meaning ‘chit chat’ and this title perfectly captures both the aim and atmosphere of the project. Informative, yet informal, Pecha Kucha is an open platform for new dialogues.
The nights are now being conducted in over 280 cities worldwide so be sure to head to Artspace and join in this information revolution.
Missed out? Not to worry. Pecha Kucha will be holding their August event at Live Futures 2020 Festival, so the future’s only a month or so away.

Pecha Kucha is on every Thursday from 7.30pm until July 29.
You’ll find Artspace at 43–51 Cowper Wharf Road, Woolloomooloo.

I stayed there on Thursday night and live to tell the tale.
Though, apparently there is a man called Blue Man Clickey that lives on the isalnd. He crawls in tents at night and kills people with one quick biro jab to the jugular. You can hear him coming with the subtle *click click* of his pen.
I went to Pecha Kucha a couple weeks ago. There were a lot of really interesting & some very funny presentations. That goes for the people that came too.
Looking forward to PK at the LF2020 Festival.
P.s. Is cockatoo island haunted?
