Live Futures 2020 is an annual futures festival in Sydney and online with friends coming in from all over the world. The purpose is to share one’s own passions and expertise with others to create something new. What will the world be like? What are each of us doing right now to create the kind of world we want to live in?
The festival is a celebration with futurists, artists, community creators, scientists, architects, engineers, technologists, entrepreneurs. Innovation occurs in the accidental meeting space of different expertise and focus. Diversity creates innovation.
Live Futures 2020 is running in its 3rd year, after a ‘World Without Borders” in 2007, “A World of Possibility” in 2008, the 2009 theme is “A World of Convergence”.
The event will run on 15th August 2009 at the College of Fine Arts, Paddington Campus, corner of Oxford Street and Greens Road.
This year’s Live Futures 2020 symbol is C as in Convergence, Collision, Community, Collaboration, Collusion, Collection, Communication, Celebration …
Some of the activities offered are:
- Presentations by well-known local and international speakers on the Future of Design, The Future of Service, The Future of Energy, The Future of Food and the Future of Technology
- Presentations space for anyone who would like to share their project, ideas, opinion
- Live Futures Film Festival showing documentaries such as Us Now, The Story of Stuff, The Future Makers and Scinema films
- Future Spaces such as Social Entrepreneur Space, Beyond Mash Up Exhibition Space, The Future of Cities, Hackers & Makers Space, Tree of Knowledge, SRDChangeX Student Sustainability Project UNSW
- Workshops such as Bridges Social Innovation VOICES, Live Futures Dreaming, The Future of Cities Mapping exercise …

Global Youth Futures
Global Youth Futures is a non-profit organisation. It was established as the youth project by Future Journeys to encourage young people to think about the future as well as to provide a platform for young people to communicate, collaborate and co-create the future.
Global Youth Futures encourages a critical view of our choices and its consequences to our society through intensive interaction. Therefore Global Youth Futures provides an online space for young people from different professions, organisations or countries to come together and exchange and discuss their ideas.
Furthermore Global Youth Futures runs projects to support its goals:
Sponsorship of a resident space at Vibewire Enterprise Hub, to support a young social entrepreneur with her project. The Vibewire Space offers young entrepreneurs a fully equipped works space as well as opportunities to meet, collaborate and gain inspiration from other social and creative entrepreneurs who are creating projects or have experience creating successful projects.
Global Youth Futures Dreaming Weekends, a live-in scenario building and innovation weekend for young people from all over Australia. The weekend allows time to discuss new technologies, world population and development, identify trends in culture, environment, technology, politics, economics. By using futurist methods and processes Global Youth Futures Dreaming Weekends enable young people to understand what is coming, what is possible. What will 2020 be like? 2030? and beyond…
